Renaissance philosophy

OK, I've been looking for the source of this idea for several years and I can't find it...

At some point in the High Middle Ages or thereabouts, one of the influential philosophers said something like this:

"We should not be studying the ancient texts; we are the ancients. We have had centuries more time to learn and we should know more."

And that was one of the key elements of the start of modern science.

Thomas Aquainas? Somebody else?

Anyone have a clue when that was first expressed? and by whom?
