Drinking a Gallon of Milk in Less than an Hour

Postby Sisyphus on April 21st, 2010, 6:34 pm

I once heard on the radio that a human being can't drink a gallon of milk in less than an hour without puking, so naturally I tried it. I bought a gallon of whole milk and drank it in less than an hour (about 48 minutes). It made my stomach hurt a lot, but I didn't puke.

If we are to believe what we hear on the radio, then since you did not puke the only possible conclusion is that you must not be a human.

I expect this is the definitive test for lactose intolerance, and you'd now know if you have that problem.

But I don't think this is truly a busted myth. I mean, there are lots of different milk formulae (even just cow's milk).

So I think you should try this with whole milk, skim, 2%, fat-free, and then, just to be sure, heavy cream.

Let us know how it all comes out. HPH

If that works out, I could suggest a number of other similar experiments. Could you do it with beer? Wine? I bet you couldn't do it with vodka. How about a comparison of different kinds of oils - of course I mean, olive oils or vegetable oils. Maybe cod liver oil? Vinegar?

Sissyphus, I heard that it's impossible for a person to have a good day where nothing goes wrong. Probably doubly so if that person is out with their mate.

I actually knew someone who successfully tried it with vodka, but he died. I haven't tried it with oil, but I did with cheese, and I puked.

He successfully tried - but died? Wouldn't that be an unsuccessful trial?

No, he was successful because he didn't puke.

You ate a gallon of cheese in an hour!!? Holy crap! (Or, given the reputed properties of cheese, maybe not.) HPH

I'm not sure if it was an entire gallon, but it was close. It was a pretty big can of cheese, the kind used in restaurants. Although, I was also eating some nachos and cake at the same time. It was probably the most I ever puked. I had cheese coming out of my nose. Now that I think about it, I didn't puke until I started running down the street. If I hadn't done that, I might not have puked.

Ok, I will ask. Why were you running down the street. Lactose intolerance?

Re: Drinking a Gallon of Milk in Less than an Hour

Postby Sisyphus on April 22nd, 2010, 6:34 pm

I was in high school at the time, and I was with some friends on our way toward a friend's house. I guess maybe I was trying to catch up to them walking down the street. When I caught up to them, I felt like I was going to puke, so I pointed at my mouth and then puked. It filled up an entire sidewalk square. Then one of my friends puked because he saw me puke, but it wasn't as much puke as I puked. Later that night it rained. When we walked by the sidewalk square the next day, the puke was gone, but the sidewalk square looked kind of black. I thought that was weird because the puke was yellow.

How ironic that the ad at the end of your last post was the "trick of the tiny belly" ad.

And if this turns into a confessional of old, stupid high-school tricks, I think I'm gonna puke.

Sisyphus...

I read about the gallon of milk myth here.

I noticed in the first paragraph, the guy mentioned whole milk. I wonder if that makes a difference?

When you say a gallon, do you mean the US liquid gallon (approx 3.8 litres) or the the US dry gallon (approx 4.4 litres)?

..............................................................

I challenge you to attempt drinking a gallon of Canola oil in an hour. As it appears to be very healthy, I suspect nothing too bad will happen if you drank a gallon of it (either 4.4 litres or 3.8 litres).

I'm not sure how many liters it was. I just know it was the regular plastic gallon jug of whole milk usually found in United States' grocery stores. I'm gonna have to pass on the Canola oil for now, though.

Is it possible that the milk you drank was liquid?

Oh, I see now. Yes, the milk was liquid. I thought "dry gallon" meant something else. I don't think I would be able to drink a non-liquid.

I'm more shocked that the guy in the video can drink a gallon of milk that fast.

No worries on the canola oil challenge.

Here are some notable eating records that put your gallon of milk in 48 minutes to shame.

If you trained hard enough (ie stuffed your stomach with food for practise) you could possibly even make a monetary career out of eating. Take this dude for instance. He once ate 59 hotdogs (including bun) in 10 minutes. He practices for his competitions by drinking a gallon of water in under a minute, and then eating some buffalo wings.
