What's wrong with normal hydroponics? What's wrong with employing people, instead of computers, in food-production? My [ordinary, manually-serviced] kale grows faster than we can eat it! I just don't get the obsession with bigger/faster=better.

And the point is that this food computer didn't even work and required putting in purchased plants to make it look like it did. It was fake science, something flashy to keep their billionaire donor happy.

Thing is, computer-controlled growing systems have been around for years. They come in all sizes from apartment to huge commercial operations, soil, substrate or hydroponic, tiered and vertical, for vegetables, herbs, microgreens, flowers and pot.
