When I read the story below, it sparked an interesting conversation with myself about divorce and marriage. While I learned (from the links I have posted after the story) that it seems that divorce rates are down from the 80's and 90's in both Canada and the US. I asked myself: Why was there such a peak in divorces in the 80's and 90's? Do people in Western Society give up too easily on marriage? Do more divorces occur because our values have changed and we accept that if we are not happy in a situation we can remove ourselves from it? Is it because it is now more acceptable to be divorced as opposed to the societal norms and values of the past where divorces were rare and frowned upon? Does religion/spirituality play a big part in keeping marriages together?
